Kanak Bhawan Temple : Kanak means gold. True to its name, the deities residing inside this sprawling palace-turned-temple adorn ornaments made of real gold. Dedicated to Lord Rama and his consort Goddess Sita, the palace is said to have been gifted by Queen Kaikeyi to the newlyweds- Ram and Sita. Kanak Bhawan was renovated in the 18th century by Vrish Bhanu Kunwari. The design of the palace is similar to the royal structures of Bundelkhand and Rajasthan. Visitors are requested to dress modestly inside the palace premises. No footwear is allowed inside the Garbha-griha.

Ram Ki Paidi : Similar to Har ki Paidi in Haridwar, Ram ki Paidi is a series of ghats on the banks of the river Saryu which is said to be the lifeline of this holy city. Visitors come here to wash away their sins by taking a holy dip in the pious river. The festival of Ram Navami, in particular, draws a lot of pilgrims who chant prayers, take a dip in the holy river, and indulge in various forms of celebrations to mark the birth of their deity.

Ram Janmabhoomi Temple : Located on the banks of the river Saryu, Ayodhya is one of the oldest settlements of India. It is a revered site for the Hindus mainly because it is the birthplace of the 7th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, Lord Ram. The Ram Janmabhoomi is the specific place in Ayodhya where Lord Ram is believed to be born and spent most of his childhood here. However, a mosque was built by Babur on the already existing temple, which was demolished in 1992 followed by nation-wide riots. After being a disputed site for decades, the Ramjanmabhoomi Temple is finally under construction. When here, you can also visit the site of the famous Babri Mosque to see its remains. The temple remains open from 7:00 am- 11:00 am and again from 2:00 pm- 6:00 pm. Visitors are advised to dress modestly inside the temple premises. Footwear is now allowed.

Tulsi Smarak Bhawan : Tulsi Smarak Bhawan, constructed in 16th century, in Ayodhya, the homeland of Lord Rama, is built in the memory of great poet philosopher Goswami Tulsidas Ji. It is the major tourist attraction of Uttar Pradesh. The Bhawan is Ayodhya’s Research Centre (Ayodhya Shodh Sansthan) involved in studies and historical significance to Ayodhya’s spiritual traditions. It has a library with large archive of literary and cultural compositions of Ramayana. Daily recitation of Ramkatha and Ramleela enactment from 6pm to 9pm is held at Tulsi Smarak Auditorium. The bhawan also witnesses regular prayer meetings and devotional concerts. The museum within the institution has collection of rare paintings, ivory articles, antiquities and photographs of Ramayana era.

Hanuman Garhi : Hanuman Garhi is a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, who is said to be presiding here since its inception, and guards the entire city of Ayodhya. It was built in the 10th Century A.D. by King Vikramaditya of Kosala. Visitors need to climb a flight of almost 70 stairs to reach the temple. Inside the temple, Lord Hanuman in his young form is seen sitting in the lap of his mother Anjani. Devotees believe that all their wishes are fulfilled and sins washed away if they visit Hanuman Garhi at least once in their lifetime. A visit to Ayodhya is said to be incomplete without visiting Hanuman Garhi. Visitors are requested to dress modestly inside the temple premises and no footwear is allowed. If you are lucky, you may spot a few monkeys or langurs, which are a common sight in every Hanuman temple.
